Afro pop music news reblogged from Họmagency and originally published April 24, 2015.
Yasss. The wait is officially over!
Just like that, without any heads-up or promo, Ify Otuya dropped her debut single on April 20, 2015. I literally just came across it myself, on iTunes last night!! The song is a very catchy Shoki Pop number embellished with Afrocentric effizie. The last time we heard any word at all from the bae, was early 2014 when she was asking UKBA where her missing bag was. The last time we peeped any music material from her was way before that in 2010 when she dropped her debut EP.
She’s been off the music radar for at least three years now, so it was a pleasant surprise to suddenly see pictures of her new single artwork all over social media; and to download and hear the song Body Work on notjustok.com.
She also recently posted on her Facebook fanpage, photo deets of an intimate heartfelt letter of gratitude to her fans… awwww. Naija’s stage darling is back and boy are we crushing! We’re so glad that this Afro Pop Princess is back making good music again. Her EP (2010) had some catchy melodies and the Họmagency is sure that both her fans worldwide and Afro Pop music lovers in general, are curious to see how well her material performs in the African music industry! Her fans definitely did miss her. I’ve been creeping through the comments on her social media posts and there are quite a lot of ‘where have u been’ messages.
One’s gotta say though, her entire vocal delivery on the song Body Work is a glaring contrast from the five songs on her previous EP. Firstly, Body Work is an aggressively-sung shoki song. Her whole musical delivery is leaning towards mainstream Naija consumption. She even gave fans a first glance into Body Work promotional pics when she posted up two pics on her Facebook Fanpage, Reverbnation site and Instagram account. In both pics, she was decked in traditional Igboid attire and appeared to be serving African alcohol (palmwine) to some dashiki-clad African fellas. Yum! On her Reverbnation site, the caption on one of those two photos actually read: “Palmwine is served”.
The Họmagency is feeling the whole indigenous Afrocentric fierce fashionista vibe. Ify Otuya is definitely one to look out for!!!!!!!!!!!!!
